The set includes (1) 22carat Gold Coin weighing 15.98 grams, and (1) solid sterling silver coin with 24carat gold plating weighing 12.00 grams. In 2008 to commemorate the London Olympic Centenary and the Olympic Games Handover from London to Beijing the Royal Mint struck a very limited issue solid 22 carat Gold Proof £2 Two Pound 2 coin collection. In 2008, it will be the centenary of the first Olympic Games to be held in London and the Royal Mint has struck a commemorative solid 22 Carat Gold Proof £2 Two Pound Coin in celebration of the sporting achievements of the athletes who competed at that 4th Olympiad. The reverse designed by Royal Mint Engraver, Thomas T Docherty and shows a running track as the central image and the anniversary date of 1908. The reverse of the Olympic Handover £2 Two Pound Gold Proof coin is designed by the Royal Mint Engraving Team and bears the Olympic Flag and London 2012 logo. Surrounding the central design are the words Beijing 2008 and London 2012 along its outer ring, set against a backdrop of lines reminiscent of an athletic track. The obverse of both coins is the stunning portrait of Her Majest Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
