One electronically tested 18KT white gold ladies cast alexandrite and diamond ring. The featured alexandrite is set within tiered diamond bezels supported by diamond set three-way split shoulders, completed by a two and one-half millimeter wide band. Bright polish finish with yellow gold accents. Trademark is CJ. Identified with markings of "18K". Condition is new, good workmanship. Containing: One prong set oval mixed cut natural alexandrite, measuring 7.01 x 5.40 x 4.65mm, 8%. bulge factor, approximate weight of 1.51ct., clarity is moderately included, type II, very dark, slightly grayish, bluish green color, (GIA bG 8/2) to dark, very slightly grayish, strongly purplish red, (GIA stpR 7/3), cut is good. Transmitting light somewhat diffusely, transparent to translucent. Naturally occurring internal & external characteristics are present. Graded in the setting. Alexandrite was discovered in the 1830's near the Tokovaya River in the Ural Mountains of Siberian Russia. It later became the national gemstone of Russia. The name "alexandrite" became official in 1842.Alexandrite is a variety of chrysoberyl. It contains both beryllium and chromium. It is the chromium that accounts for the spectacular color change. The color change is the primary qualification for a chrysoberyl to be considered alexandrite. Alexandrite is strongly trichroic. Its color change results in a near-equal transmission of the blue-green and red portions of the spectrum, coupled with strong absorption in the yellow. Today Alexandrite is found in Brazil, India, Madagascar, Myanmar, Russia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
